Officially, El Silencio doesn't exist. There's no website, no phone number, and no signage to speak of. Just a secret door tucked inside Pablo Picante Burrito Bar on Clarendon Market, behind which lies one of Dublin's most spirited hidden hangouts.
Once inside, the premise is refreshingly simple: tacos and margaritas, and nothing else. No wine list, no whiskey, no dessert menu. The kitchen builds its tacos on gluten-free corn tortillas from Balam, the Dublin-based Mexican food business founded by Eduardo and his team, with a strong line-up of plant-based options including the much-loved Vegan Prison Tray.
On the drinks side, more than 11 margarita combinations are mixed exclusively with 100% agave tequila and mezcal. The vibe is pure dive bar: music turned up, drinks poured strong, and not a hint of pretension. Those in the know message on Instagram. Everyone else walks straight past.
