About

Chaplins is one of the oldest and most famous Dublin pubs and is located beside the noted Trinity College. The general opinion is that this pub has been in existence since 1795. At one time it comprised two pubs, side by side, which were amalgamated many years ago. It is very popular with tourists and locals alike.

Chaplins has hosted many famous writers, poets and Trinity scholars over the years including Con Houlihan, Seamus Heaney and James Joyce. The pub itself is named after Charlie Chaplin who visited when on holidays in Ireland. We like to think that the refreshments had in the pub provided inspiration for these great artists and writers. The comedian Brendan Grace, as a boy, often visited this pub to meet his father who worked as a barman there for many years.
